Getting the gold price…

When is Zakat due?

Zakat on wealth is due when your wealth reaches the nisab and stays above it for a full hijri (Islamic) year, called the hawl. The amount is one fortieth, or 2.5%, of your wealth.

This calculator uses the gold nisab: the value of 85 grams of pure (24k) gold. Some scholars use the silver nisab (595 grams) instead, which is much lower, so Zakat would be due on smaller amounts.

What should I include?

Add up your cash and savings, gold and silver, the value of investments, shares and business stock, and money others owe you that you expect back. Then subtract debts you have to pay now.

Scholars differ on jewellery you wear: some say Zakat is due on it and some say it isn't. If you follow the view that it is, add its weight in the gold box.

Please note

This calculator gives an estimate only and is not a fatwa. The gold price changes every day and comes from an outside source. For special cases, please ask a scholar or your country's official Zakat authority.
